Analyst Thinks Packers Should Deliver 1 Message To Aaron Rodgers

July 25, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Saturday night.

With three-time All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers coming off the best season of his career in 2020, you’d think the Packers would be doing everything they can to make sure the reigning league MVP returns in 2021.

But, senior NFL analyst Pete Prisco believes Green Bay should take another approach.

Amid speculation that Rodgers would rather retire than play for the Packers in 2021, Prisco feels the franchise should let him walk.

“So Aaron Rodgers might retire? Packers message should be simple: See ya. Play for us or don’t play,” he wrote.

As pointed out by Packers insider Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated on Friday, several sportsbooks have updated their odds to account for a possible Aaron Rodgers retirement before the start of the 2021 season. Retirement has been a possibility since initial reports of the QB’s dissatisfaction broke earlier this year, but these oddsmaker shifts make that possibility all the more real.

Rodgers’ current contract with the Packers extends through 2023 with a potential out after this coming season.

For the first time in his 17-year NFL career, Rodgers skipped out on all voluntary workouts, OTAs and mandatory minicamp this offseason. Green Bay’s training camp will kickoff later this week on Wednesday.

If the superstar quarterback doesn’t show, it could be time for the Packers to heed Prisco’s advice and move on.
