Aaron Rodgers has made it clear he wants to play for the New York Jets, but thus far, the Jets and Green Bay Packers have not agreed to a trade involving the four-time MVP.
On NFL Live earlier today, ESPN insider Adam Schefter said that the motivation remains for the Packers and Jets to get a deal done before next Thursday’s NFL Draft.
The “soft deadline,” according to Schefter, is Friday night, where the Jets have back-to-back picks (Nos. 42 and 43) in the second round.
Schefter’s comments can be found starting at the 2:10 mark in the video below.
Schefter repeated the idea of a “soft deadline” during an appearance on SportsCenter tonight.
“The line of demarcation, the soft deadline, is next Friday night, picks 42 and 43,” Schefter said, via Bleacher Report. “Because if picks 42 and 43 come and go without Aaron Rodgers being traded to the New York Jets, then the wait for him to become a Jet could go on for an awful long time.”
While the Jets remain in the drivers’ seat to acquire Rodgers, there have been some whispers about the San Francisco 49ers kicking the tires on the California native.
