It’s now been over a week since Aaron Rodgers publicly stated that he wants to leave the Green Bay Packers and join the New York Jets. But one insider had an update on the situation that isn’t especially promising.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter via Dov Kleiman, the Jets and Packers haven’t “spoken much” this past week. Per the report, the two appear to be deadlocked over compensation.
Schefter said that the Packers want a first-round pick in exchange for Rodgers and apparently more. The Jets, meanwhile, appear uninterested in giving up a pick that high to get him.
As for the Jets’ decision on Wednesday to trade wide receiver Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns for a second-round pick, Schefter said that the move was unrelated to Rodgers or the Packers.

Green Bay “wants a 1st round pick” in the Rodgers trade “and that’s not all they want.”

For days – weeks even – it’s felt like this process will drag out all the way into April and maybe even beyond the 2023 NFL Draft.
One would think the Packers would like to get something from the Jets before the Draft so they can start building around quarterback Jordan Love.
But if the Packers are adamant that they won’t let Rodgers go for anything less than a first-round pick, this could wind up taking months to resolve.
Will the Jets wind up caving to the Packers’ trade demands?
