While many figure that this will be Aaron Rodgers‘ final year with the Green Bay Packers, there are no guarantees. Rodgers himself made that clear during his press conference today, after a joint practice with the New York Jets.
Rodgers reportedly looked very sharp against Robert Saleh’s young team. While the future of the Packers after this fall remains up in the air, the team should be a Super Bowl contender once again, after back-to-back trips to the NFC Championship Game.
Through the drama this summer, it has become pretty clear that as of now, Rodgers would like to end his career elsewhere. A lot can change with one college football season, though.
When asked about his future, Rodgers made an interesting statement. He says that he doesn’t know what lies ahead, but he does not want a farewell tour from the Green Bay Packers.

If Aaron Rodgers and the front office are still pretty far apart, and the team is ready to see what Jordan Love can do, they could trade him after this season. There is also the possibility that things go really well in 2021, and that he doesn’t see a better situation than the one he is already in.
Love looked pretty solid in his first game action over the weekend, before leaving with a shoulder issue. Even so, Peter King reported that the team doesn’t see Love as “ready for prime time” at this point, and it is unclear if that will change between now and the end of the season. If he’s still a big question mark and largely untested entering year three, it could make things messy on the Packers’ end as well.
The Packers continue preseason play against the Jets this Saturday. The regular season opener comes at the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 12.
