Two weeks ago, Aaron Rodgers made his triumphant return to the Green Bay Packers – amid concessions.
Rodgers agreed to a re-worked contract that will allow him to potentially play for a new team in 2022. That comes after he reportedly asked to be traded away from the organization this offseason.
While Rodgers was away, there were rumors he might actually retire – rather than play for the Packers again. On Wednesday afternoon, Rodgers revealed those rumors were true.
“I mean, I felt going into the weekend before camp that I was 50/50,” said Rodgers in an interview with Dan Le Batard. “I don’t care if people don’t believe that. That’s true.”
Aaron Rodgers revealed on this week’s episode of #SouthBeachSessions that it was 50/50 on whether he would retire on the weekend headed into training camp.

When he expanded on his comments, it seems like Rodgers was seriously considering walking away from the game.
“There were some things that got me to 50/50 for sure, and you know I spent a couple of days in silence and meditation and contemplation and really felt like that I should come back,” he said. “There’s a lot of opportunities for growth and exciting things in Green Bay and that felt like the right thing to do.”
It would have been shocking to watch the reigning NFL MVP retire from the game of football with three years left on his deal.
In the end, Packers fans got what they wanted: Rodgers back for at least another year. Beyond the 2021 season, though, is anyone’s guess.
