New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is dominating NFL headlines this week because he failed to show up for mandatory minicamp.
At first, Jets coach Robert Saleh said it was an unexcused absence for Rodgers. He then changed his tune and told reporters he was on the same page as his veteran quarterback.
“Aaron and I are on the exact same page,” Saleh said. “There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates, for that matter. We addressed it yesterday. It’s more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside.”
Earlier this Wednesday, former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari shared his thoughts on all this drama surrounding Rodgers.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Bakhtiari is siding with his former teammate.
“Friendly reminder that teams don’t win games in June,” Bakhtiari wrote on X. “Teams can only lose games (injuries) during this time.”
Several fans pushed back against this claim from Bakhtiari, saying that June is the time where chemistry is built.
Bakhtiari wasn’t the only person who defended Rodgers this afternoon. Jets cornerback DJ Reed also offered his support.
“That’s our quarterback,” Reed said. “If it’s important to him, it’s important to us. It’s really not a big deal.”
Rodgers will have to report for training camp in late July. Make no mistake about it, he’ll face plenty of questions from the media.
