A win for the Green Bay Packers, a career day for Aaron Rodgers.

The Green Bay Packers won their second consecutive game on Sunday thanks to a 30-16 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. While I’m always excited about a win, I DO think the Pack unnecessarily gave up a bunch of points.

Going into halftime, Green Bay was enjoying a 20-3 lead and in under 90 seconds, a fourth-quarter field goal gave the Eagles the opportunity for back-to-back touchdowns, and most the team was nowhere to be seen.

Luckily, the Packers have quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He’s having one of his best seasons in years, almost solidifying his slam-dunk MVP/HOF placement. It’s reminiscent of 2014, which was the last time Green Bay led the NFL in scoring and Rodgers had another award-worthy season.

Six quarterbacks in NFL history had thrown 400 touchdown passes before Aaron Rodgers reached that milestone Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. None of them did it as quickly as Rodgers, however! He reached 400 touchdown passes for his career in his 193rd regular-season game. That’s 12 fewer games than QB Drew Brees, who was previously the fastest to 400, reaching that in 205 games. This milestone was reached against the Eagles in the fourth quarter with a 42-yard pass to Rodgers’ favorite target, wide receiver Devante Adams.

“[My teammates] didn’t say a whole lot during the week, but it’s always interesting to see who gets the milestone throw,” Rodgers said after Sunday’s game. “Pretty cool that Davante got it. I didn’t do a whole lot on that play. It was a really good, schemed play. He did the whole thing, stiff-armed his way into the end zone. But yeah, it was fun to have those milestones back-to-back weeks. Like I said last week, a lot of it is longevity, but there also is some consistent play tied to it.”

After this play, Adams brought the ball to Rodgers in a mock proposal celebration.

With three scores Sunday, Green Bay’s elite QB also reached 36 for the year. This is his fifth season with at least 35 touchdowns — the most seasons with over 35 in NFL history. He had been tied with quarterbacks Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning at four each. However – Rodgers is the ONLY quarterback who had fewer than 100 interceptions (he has 88) at the time he reached 400 touchdowns.

Every year I call for Aaron Rodgers to be the NFL’s MVP. BUT! THIS year, it’s hard to argue. Rodgers has won two MVP awards in his career thus far (2011, 2014), but his 2020 campaign is already better than both of those seasons – and that’s saying a lot, as 2011 was a BIG season for him. He currently leads the NFL in both touchdown passes (36) and passer rating (118.5) and has had over a 100 passer rating in 11-of-12 games this season. Assuming he keeps up this level of gameplay, the MVP award is a lock.

Next up? Green Bay travels to Detroit to face the Lions this Sunday afternoon.
