The Packers moved quickly filling their Special Teams Coordinator vacancy by hiring Cameron Achord as the new Special Teams Coordinator .
Achord takes over a special teams unit that has had it fair share of struggles the past few years.
During Bisaccia’s time in Green Bay, the Packers special teams improved but, not to the extend that was expected.
There was a high expectation that the Packers special teams woes would finally go away when Bisaccia arrived.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen.
In all four years of Bisaccia tenure, the Packers special teams unit finished in the bottom half of the special teams rankings.
Achord though brings some experience in leading a top-ranked special teams unit in 2020.
Achord resume

Cameron Achord got his coaching career start at Southern Miss in 2010 as a graduate assistant.
In 2012 he went on to coach multiple positions at Southeast Mississippi.
Then in 2018 Achord got his first NFL coaching job as an assistant special teams coach for the New England Patriots.
Achord was promoted to Special Teams coordinator for the Patriots in 2020.
After 4 seasons as the Special Teams coordinator with the Patriots, Achord became the New York Giants assistant special teams coordinator.
Top special teams unit in New England
In his first season as Special Teams Coordinator, Achord led a top ranked Patriots special teams unit.
While in his 2nd-4th years in New England ended in the special teams ranked in the middle, their punt return unit remained one of the best in the league.
During his time as the special teams assistant in New York, the Giants were ranked 20th and 9th in the league.
Well liked around the league
Cameron Achord has the respect of a lot of players and coaches in the league.
Former special teams ace Matthew Slater says Archord is someone he respects.
“He is a bright young coach who really relates well to the players but has the players’ respect.”
Achord also learned under some of the best coaches in Bill Belichick, who prioritize special teams as a top priority.
Task at hand for the Packers
Achord will have a big task to achieve as the Packers special teams have struggled.
In fact it has been a very long time since the Packers finished with a top 10 special teams unit.
You would have to go back to 2007 to find the last special teams unit ranked in the top 10.
Last season, multiple mistakes by the special teams unit cost the Packers.
Missed kicks, blocked kicks or not recovering an onside kick.
All resulting in losses for the Packers.
Achord will have to try to change the special team culture that has long lived in Green Bay.
But with the experience Achord brings, the Packers have a chance to turn things around.
In Achord, the Packers have someone who has led the top special teams unit.
