To a lot of people, Amar Johnson might just be another name on the Packers roster.
But Amar Johnson might be a name to look out for as the Packers head into their final preseason game against the Seahawks.
Johnson has been nothing short of impressive in the two preseason games the Packers have played.
Through two games, the un-drafted rookie is the Packers leader in rushing yards with 89 yards.
He also has 2 touchdowns so far in the preseason, tied for 1st in the NFL.
But you might be asking yourself who is Amar Johnson?
We’ll look at his path to the NFL and where he could fit on the Packers roster.
College days

Johnson attended college at South Dakota State.
For a few seasons he was teammate with fellow Packer Tucker Kraft.
While at South Dakota State Johnson put up numbers and racked up yards.
Johnson racked up 3,196 yards on 537 carries with 38 touchdowns in 59 games for the Jackrabbits.
During his junior and senior years, Johnson received first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.
NFL Draft
Johnson didn’t get drafted during the 3-day NFL draft back in April.
The Packers though were quick to sign him to the team after the NFL Draft.
For Johnson, he was already impressed with the Packers and wanted to play for them.
“I just felt the love from them, really ever since my pro day,” Johnson said in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
“When my pro day came and I talked to Brett (Thiesen), one of the scouts, he was very high on me and saying how much he would love to have me at the Packers.”
Preseason Standout
So far in training camp and in the preseason Johnson has stood out.
He’s has made the most out of his opportunities with MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson battling injuries.
Two weeks ago in a loss against the Jet, he scored the Packers lone touchdown, a 39 yard touchdown.
This past week Johnson scored again to tie the game at 16-16 against the Colts.
Johnson has the 7th most rushing yards and the most touchdowns in the 2025 preseason.
Chances of making the 53-man roster
The chances of Amar Johnson to make the initial 53-man roster are slim, but he has a chance.
Josh Jacobs is basically a lock but other than that the competition is wide open.
Lloyd has been battling injuries all training camp and preseason, can the Packers depend on him being healthy is the bigger question.
Meanwhile Wilson could possibly make the team as he has the experience in the Packers offense.
Chris Brooks is another back who has been impressive during training camp and he could easily get the 3rd down back spot.
Then you have Johnson and Israel Abanikanda who was impressive in Saturdays win vs the Colts.
Again, it’s tough hill to climb to make the 53 man roster but I do think that the most realistic spot for Johnson to land is the practice squad.
If Johnson can have another great performance against the Seahawks Saturday, I’d say he is a lock to make it on the practice squad.
