Yesterday the Packers made roster cuts to get to their initial 53 man roster. Today they are combing over each teams cuts looking for players that can improve the team as well as diamonds in the rough. There are 4 cut players that the Packers should consider adding to the roster.
Marvin Wilson, DT
After the 2021 NFL Draft, Marvin Wilson was one of the highly desired undrafted free agents throughout the NFL, securing $192,000 guarantee to sign with the Cleveland Browns. However, he couldn’t break into the Browns deep defensive line rotation. At Florida he looked good in 2019 but his 2020 tape left a lot to be desired, leading to him falling out of the draft. He has tools to be a good defensive lineman and continuing to add talent to the defensive line would be wise.
Jimmy Moreland, CB
Moreland was a surprising cut from the Washington Football Team. He thrived in the slot and has shown that he is an NFL corner. He is just entering his 3rd season in the NFL, so he would be another young DB to add to the mix. Moreland has also shown good tackling skills in run support, so it’s likely that he could also support special teams in addition to the slot. The biggest concern about Moreland is that he was cut with an injury designation, so it’s hard to tell if he’s healthy enough to contribute to the team.
Michael Jordan, G
Only 23 years old and 3 years removed from being a 4th round pick, Michael Jordan was a shocking cut by the Bengals. He’s a proven starter, having already started 27 games in his first two seasons. Jordan is also the prototypical size that the Packers having been looking for at the position, being 6-6 and 315 lbs. He can bring a mauling style to roster. The only question is if the Packers have room on their roster for a true guard seemingly without positional versatility.
Kameron Canady, LS
The Packers have already made one major change in their specialists, cutting punter JK Scott and trading for Corey Bojorquez. Another change could be adding a new long snapper in Kameron Canady. For the past two seasons he has been a consistent presence for the Steelers special teams units. He’s also young at 28, so could be a great investment for the present and the future. While it’s a risk to change both specialists around veteran kicker Mason Crosby, it’s important to work to purge special teams of the chaos that has plagued it over the past two years.
Jordan is a lifelong Packer fan who grew up in Idaho and now lives in Seattle, Washington. You can follow him on twitter at @jordantwolf.
