The University of Wisconsin No. 15 women’s soccer team took to the road on Sunday afternoon to face No. 17 University of Washington Huskies.
The opening half saw both teams on the defensive side of the ball, but both struggled to create chances on the offensive side of it.
Right before halftime, sophomore Jadea Collin made a crucial block off a Washington corner, keeping the game scoreless going into halftime. In recent games, the Badgers have failed to score in the first half despite strong performances, an issue head coach Paula Wilkins has emphasized.
Heading into the second half, both teams looked to pull ahead.

At minute 53, Washington was awarded a penalty in the box after an official Virtual Assistant Referee review. Sophomore Alex Buck stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty for the Huskies. The goal put the Huskies ahead 1-0 against the Badgers.
The Badgers looked to comeback off of numerous corner kick opportunities, but nothing would fall for the Badgers. Wisconsin controlled the possession late, but it wasn’t enough against the Huskies’ defensive organization.
The Huskies’ defense stood strong, forcing the Badgers into mistakes on the offensive end. Wisconsin junior Erin Connnoly and Graduate-student Ashley Martinez managed the Badgers only two shots on goal.
With this loss, the Badgers move to 12-4 on the season and look ahead to their next game against Northwestern University Oct. 26.
The team will aim to bounce back and finish the regular season strong before Big Ten tournament play begins.
