The Badgers have an opponent for their season opener in November.
The Wisconsin Badgers have been busy scheduling several competitive games for their non-conference schedule recently, with a matchup against the Villanova Wildcats announced last week.
Well, the Badgers may have an opponent for their season opener, as college basketball analyst Rocco Miller reported that Wisconsin will take on Campbell on November 3rd at the Kohl Center to kick off their 2025-26 campaign.
If accurate, it will be the first time the two schools have played in history, and it will also be the debut of Campbell head coach John Andrzejek.
Wisconsin has brought in several different opponents for their home openers in recent years, including Eastern Illinois (2020), St. Francis Brooklyn (2021), South Dakota (2022), Arkansas State (2023), and Holy Cross (2024).
They haven’t lost a season opener since the 2019-20 season when they fell short in a 65-63 overtime defeat to No. 20-ranked St. Mary’s.
Wisconsin was one of the hottest teams to start the 2024-25 campaign, starting off the year 8-0 with wins over No. 9 Arizona, UCF, and Pittsburgh. That led them from an unranked team to the No. 11 squad in the country over the first month of the season.
They’ll look to repeat that similar success in 2025, starting off with the opener versus Campbell, but they do face a challenging non-conference schedule overall with several Power 5 opponents on the docket.
