Alex Moeller of Mt. Prospect, Ill. becomes the latest member of the 2021 class.
Due to the unprecedented nature of this past year/recruiting class because of the pandemic, we’re seeing things we haven’t traditionally seen before. For example, getting a walk on quarterback commitment on April 15th.
That’s exactly what happened when Alex (Gary) Moeller of Mt. Prospect High School in Illinois tweeted out his commitment to Wisconsin as a preferred walk-on on Thursday morning.

Moeller, listed at 6-foot and 165 pounds, plays quarterback and defensive back for his high school, which is full of future college football talent (when I was at UW-Whitewater we recruited many of his teammates), and he is able to operate their high-powered offense at an impressive clip.
He shows a strong throwing arm, with accuracy both on deep passes as well as on the run, in particular rolling to his left, which is impressive. He also shows some athletic ability, as in his highlight video he takes a zone read keeper off the right side to the house for a long touchdown run. Additionally, he shows a willingness to test the middle of the field, both on seam passes, as well as on RPOs, so he’s been exposed to college level passing concepts at the high school level.
Moeller joins Deacon Pe’a Hill at quarterback in this recruiting class for Wisconsin. His highlights are from this spring, as Illinois high schools didn’t play football in the fall.
He was also receiving interest from multiple FCS schools, such as Southern Illinois, Valparaiso (offer), Butler, Columbia and Yale.
