Statement Released On Death Of Wisconsin Athlete Sarah Shulze

April 25, 2022 by The Spun

A statement has been released by Wisconsin’s non-profit organization, which empowers students to talk about mental health after track star Sarah Shulze passed away on Apr. 13.

Shulze died by suicide, according to her family. She was just 21 years old.

In the statement, the organization encourages everyone around the country to invest in resources that benefit student-athletes.

“We are devastated to hear about the passing of Sarah Shulze and send our love and prayers to her family and friends. Sarah was a devoted friend, daughter, sister, and teammate. It should not take a loss of life for people to realize how vital mental health is. We encourage institutions, athletic departments, policymakers, and people across the country to invest in resources that support student-athletes as they grapple with the pressures of playing a sport while being a full-time student.”

“Through storytelling, we will continue to humanize student-athletes and normalize conversations around mental health and seeking help. To honor Sarah, 100% of proceeds from Tackle the Stigma ticket sales will go to the Sarah Shulze Foundation, supporting women’s rights, student-athletes, and mental health.”
