Wisconsin hosted a practice for media to see on Thursday.
The Wisconsin Badgers had their first practice available to the media on Thursday, giving early access to their new-look team ahead of the season.
There were several new faces in attendance, notably transfer guards Nick Boyd and Andrew Rohde, who are expected to start alongside returning star John Blackwell in the backcourt this season.
While I wasn’t at practice, there were several reports out there about the day, with one quote standing out.
Speaking to Wisconsin media for the first time, Boyd had a strong declaration about the Badgers backcourt.
“This is going to be one of the best trios in the country,” Boyd said, via On3’s Evan Flood, referring to him, Blackwell, and Rohde.
Rohde was a standout on the day, hitting five threes in practice according to multiple reporters, while also showing off his underrated passing ability.
Wisconsin will have quite a bit of change for the upcoming season, but their starting five seems to be a great fit in the offense. With Boyd, Rohde, and Blackwell, they have three players who can handle the ball and playmake, while also being capable shooters.
In the frontcourt, there’s Nolan Winter, who is bulking up to play center, and Austin Rapp, who are both adequate cutters and can shoot the three ball. That pairs well with ball screen actions and good facilitators in the backcourt.
Wisconsin will have a second summer practice available to the media next week, where we’ll get another look at how the team is shaping out well ahead of the season.
