The Badgers have a few former players partaking in the NBA Summer League this year.

The NBA Summer League has kicked off, with action beginning on Saturday with the Utah and California Classic.

With only four games, there weren’t many former Wisconsin Badgers in action, as most will begin play later next week.

But, the Utah Jazz faced off against the Philadelphia 76ers, winning 93-89 in their first game thanks to 22 points and six rebounds from second-year pro Kyle Filipowski.

The top players to watch were No. 3 pick V.J. Edgecombe (76ers) and No. 5 pick Ace Bailey (Jazz), with both looking to shine in their NBA debuts. Edgecombe was the leader for Philadelphia, scoring 28 points, nabbing 10 rebounds, and recording four assists.

Bailey, on the other hand, had a quieter scoring night, going for eight points on 3/13 shooting, while bringing down seven rebounds.

Where were Tonje and Crowl?

Well, both ended up with DNPs on the night, but for different reasons. Tonje suffered a right ankle sprain and was not able to make his debut, while Crowl was one of several coaches decisions for the Jazz.

They’ll both get their next chance to play on Monday when the Jazz take on the Grizzlies in the second game of the Utah Summer League schedule. The third and final game of the slate for the Jazz in the Utah slate will be on Tuesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Then comes Las Vegas, where the Jazz will travel on Friday to face the Charlotte Hornets.

If healthy, Tonje should see a good role when he makes his debut for the Jazz. Rookies Ace Bailey and Walter Clayton Jr. played 25 minutes each, with the latter coming off the bench, on Saturday.

Crowl, on the other hand, will look to make his mark and earn a two-way contract after signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the Jazz ahead of Summer League.
