Some excellent Nittany Lion defense, including a couple forced turnovers and a blocked field goal, kept the Badgers off the board through the first. PSU’s offense also helped keep the game scoreless, notching just one first down through the first two quarters.
But after that brutal start to the game, we finally got some offensive action following the halftime break.
After stringing together two first downs early in the third quarter (doubling their first half total), Penn State QB Sean Clifford launched a deep-ball to a wide open Jahan Dotson for a 49-yard touchdown and the first score of the game.

Immediately after this touchdown drive by the Nittany Lions, the Badgers marched down the field for a touchdown over their own. Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz finally got things going, completing a few solid passes before handing the ball off to Chez Mellusi for the punch-in score.
While these two drives produced some impressive scores, the overall scoring struggles continued on the Nittany Lions’ ensuing drive.
After battling their way into the redzone, Penn State missed a chip-shot field goal wide right to keep the game deadlocked at seven points apiece.
