The Badgers star is off to the NBA.
The Utah Jazz have selected Wisconsin Badgers guard John Tonje with the No. 53 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Tonje, a second-team All-American this season, was a breakout star for the Badgers, averaging 19.6 points and 5.3 rebounds on 46.5 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from three.
He was arguably the best transfer for any team this past season, becoming a three-level scorer for the Badgers with a knack for getting to the foul line.
He was expected to be taken in the second round of the draft, but his draft range was rather wide, stemming from the late 30s to the back of the second round.
Ultimately, he’s ending up with the Utah Jazz, who have prioritized shooting so far in the draft.
Utah surprised many by taking Rutgers Scarlet Knights star Ace Bailey with the No. 5 pick. Then, they used their second first-round selection to take Florida Gators guard Walter Clayton with the No. 18 pick.
Now, they’re adding a third shooter, getting some size on the perimeter with the 6’5, 220-pound Tonje, who will provide experience as a rookie.
