A Wisconsin rookie finally got some playing time in his NBA debut.
It took a couple of games, but the Wisconsin Badgers finally saw their first rookie make their NBA debut on Sunday evening.
Center Steven Crowl, who signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Utah Jazz, hit the floor for the first time in a 103-93 loss to the Golden State Warriors, coming off the bench.
It was the fifth game of the NBA Summer League for the Jazz, who had played three contests in the Utah Classic before arriving in Las Vegas. However, Crowl hadn’t seen action in the first three games, and was a DNP once again in Utah’s 111-105 loss to the Charlotte Hornets in the Summer League opener.
But, he did get some action on Sunday, playing six minutes, while recording one offensive rebound and one turnover. He was a -8 in the box score. Crowl checked in during the first quarter for starter Cam McGriff and secured an offensive rebound shortly after. He played three minutes in the first stretch before returning to the bench.
Crowl later saw another three minutes while checking in for McGriff again in the second quarter, recording a turnover on a pass that was stolen. That was his last action, as he did not play in the second half.
Fellow Badgers and Jazz rookie John Tonje has yet to make his NBA debut due to a right ankle sprain. He had been ruled as OUT on the injury report for Utah’s first four games, but was upgraded to doubtful.
While he still didn’t make his debut, he is not ruled out of Summer League yet, according to The Athletic’s Tony Jones, and could eventually make his debut later this month.
