Wisconsin may not be done adding in the portal just yet.
The Wisconsin Badgers found a potential starter in the transfer portal along the offensive line earlier this offseason when they landed Central Michigan transfer Davis Heinzen.
A multi-year starter for the Chippewas, Heinzen was brought in after Wisconsin lost starting left tackle Kevin Heywood for the year to a torn ACL. He could come in and compete for the starting left tackle job or potentially kick in to guard if the Badgers feel more comfortable with Joe Brunner on the outside.
When it comes to depth, Wisconsin is intriguingly deep along the offensive line. Currently, they have 17 scholarship linemen, thanks to two straight classes with five freshmen. While there aren’t many players who have in-game experience, that’s a pretty high number for a position group.
So, it’s notable that Wisconsin offered Nebraska transfer offensive lineman Grant Seagren earlier this month. A walk-on initially from Omaha, Nebraska, the incoming redshirt sophomore is expected to find a scholarship spot elsewhere, with schools like Kentucky and Washington State having offered him in the transfer portal.
Seagren could be a replacement for 2024 four-star offensive tackle Derek Jensen, who entered the transfer portal and committed to Iowa State after one season with the Badgers.
He would join a deep offensive line room at Wisconsin and provide depth at tackle, having a unique 6’7 frame for the position.
It’s unclear how deep Wisconsin’s interest is, but they may not be done adding offensive linemen in the spring transfer portal.
