Badgers in the NBA: Micah Potter signs with Miami Heat

The former Badger signed with the same team he played Summer League for back in August.

On Friday, the Miami Heat announced that they had signed three players to contracts and…one of them just so happened to be former Wisconsin Badgers big man Micah Potter! Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed, but I feel safe in assuming it was for billions of dollars.

Love to see it, @BigJam_23! ✍️

Congrats to Micah Potter on being signed by the @MiamiHEAT‼️

Potter appeared in six Summer League games with the Heat and averaged 7.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.17 blocks, 1.0 assists and a total +15 plus/minus while shooting 55.9 percent from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the foul line. He posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double while blocking five shots against Dallas on August 17.

The previous paragraph is from the Heat’s press release about the signings and you’ll note that it doesn’t include Potter’s three point shooting percentage, which was bad. I think that this is a good thing though!

Three point shooting was supposed to be one of Potter’s plus skills and if he’s getting a contract with the Heat while not showing off his shooting stroke, he must’ve impressed in other areas.

Miami is expected to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this year so it’ll be an uphill climb for Potter to make the main roster, but being invited to training camp means he probably has a spot with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s G-League affiliate.

At Wisconsin during his senior year, Potter averaged 12.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 22.2 minutes while shooting 50.4 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from three-point range and 84 percent from the foul line.
