Badgers get a transfer portal wide receiver after losing two to the portal

Wisconsin finally got the portal wide receiver they’ve been looking for.

The Wisconsin Badgers landed a wide receiver in the transfer portal on Wednesday, adding a commitment from Hawaii wide receiver Dekel Crowdus.

Crowdus, who stands 5’11, 175 pounds, caught 16 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns as a junior for Hawaii, which resulted in an impressive 25.1 yards per catch.

A former four-star recruit coming out of high school, Crowdus was on a visit to Wisconsin last week before deciding to commit to the program, and now provides the Badgers with the depth they were looking for at wide receiver.

Crowdus was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, initially starting his career at Kentucky. Over three seasons with the Wildcats, the wideout caught four passes for 82 yards before transferring to Hawaii for the 2024 season.

He becomes the fourth player to join Wisconsin in the transfer portal alongside Central Michigan offensive tackle Davis Heinzen, Missouri State tight end Lance Mason, and Purdue long snapper Nick Levy.

He is expected to add depth at wide receiver, which the Badgers needed after losing Quincy Burroughs and Mark Hamper to the spring transfer portal. Wisconsin had been interested in adding a player at the position, handing out several offers to portal receivers.

Crowdus should now compete for a spot in the two-deep, potentially joining the slot wide receiver group behind Trech Kekahuna.

During the spring, the Badgers saw Jayden Ballard emerge as the top option on the perimeter alongside returner Vinny Anthony. In addition, players like Chris Brooks Jr., Joseph Griffin Jr., Eugene Hilton, and Tyrell Henry all saw snaps with the first and second-team offenses during spring ball.

Now, Crowdus should join that group, spending his final year of eligibility at Wisconsin.
