The Wisconsin Badgers are losing one of their freshmen to the transfer portal, as outside linebacker/edge rusher Jordan Mayer is entering the portal after one season in Madison.
Mayer, a 6’4, 235-pound edge rusher from Thomas Jefferson High School in Pennsylvania, had initially earned an offer in April, 2022, and committed to the old staff last June, but was kept on as a part of the 2023 recruiting when Luke Fickell was named head coach.
Mayer was recruited at Cincinnati as well while Fickell was there, which is why it made sense that the edge rusher would stay on, despite the coaching change.
But, after one season with the Badgers, Mayer is entering the portal, and will carry four years of eligibility with him to his next destination.
Mayer initially committed to Boston College last spring, but the Badgers were able to flip him and hold onto that commitment.
A three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, Mayer picked the Badgers over offers from Duke, Syracuse, Boston College, and Rutgers, among other schools.
