Back to back visits to start new year for four star forward

December 27, 2025 by Zags Blog

As a veritable walking double double possessing a refined skill set as a shooter with a growing passing arsenal, Class of 2027 four-star forward Donovan Davis is one of the top Midwest recruits.

At Freedom High School (WI), Davis has been firmly entrenched as the focal point and a constant presence on the offensive and defensive glass.

As soon as 2026 arrives, Davis has a busy and exciting few days. The versatile Team Herro forward has been anticipating consecutive visits for a while now.

On January 2nd, he will visit Iowa State.

“They really are a defensive minded program, which I like,” Davis said.

“They’ve been playing really well recently, now at No.3 in the country. It’s been really good as far as far as establishing relationships with (head) coach TJ Otzelberger and (assistant) coach JR (Blount). It is going to be a good experience, going out there and watching their first conference game (against West Virginia).”

Otzelberger has emphasized notable similarities between Davis’ game and that of senior forward Joshua Jefferson.

Jefferson is currently averaging 17.7 points, seven boards, five assists, and shooting a sublime 55 percent from the floor.

Davis said he is stoked about the prospect of being molded and developed in a similar fashion.

Following the visit to Iowa State, Davis will spend the third day of the New Year at Wisconsin.

In Madison, he will take in a marquee matchup as the Badgers host No.5 Purdue.

“It has been good conversations with them as well, coach (Greg) Gard has been telling me he wants me to stay home for college,” Davis said.

“They kind of envision me going in there as a four or even a wing in their continuous ball screen offense.”

Davis said he has been hearing the most consistently from and entertaining five programs: Wisconsin, Iowa State, Iowa, Marquette, and Nebraska.
