The Racine native starred at Iowa, played in the WNBA, and is now returning to Wisconsin to take a swing at coaching.
Marquette women’s basketball changed up the staff a little bit on Monday, as head coach Cara Consuegra announced the addition of Sam Logic as an assistant coach.
To the press release for Consuegra’s comments:
“We are excited to have Sam join our staff,” Consuegra said. “Sam is someone I’ve known and respected for a long time. She is a high character individual who aligns with our program’s core values. Her outstanding college experience and years of playing professionally will bring a unique perspective to our players and impact our program right away.”
And Logic on her new job:
“I am very excited to be back home and join the Marquette women’s basketball family,” Logic said. “I believe in Cara and her vision for her program and I cannot wait to get to campus and help build on the success of this team.”
Logic was a McDonald’s All-American and Miss Wisconsin Basketball during her senior year at Case High School in Racine. She followed that up with four years at Iowa, where she became, at the time, the first player in NCAA history with 1,500 points, 800 rebounds, 800 assists, and 200 steals. As of the start of the 2024-25 season, Logic ranked #14 on Iowa’s all-time scoring list, as well as #4 in rebounds, and #2 in steals. She used to be Iowa’s all-time leader in assists with 898, but Caitlin Clark went and ran past Logic’s record with 1,144 helpers. Logic also used to have Iowa’s record for double-doubles before Megan Gustafson more than doubled her up, and Clark bested Logic’s records for triple-doubles in a season (3) and a career (6).
By the way, the first triple-double in Iowa history? Cara Consuegra, who had 17/10/10 back in 2000.
Logic has been playing professionally since wrapping up her career as a Hawkeye, spending one year in the WNBA before bouncing around to France, Australia, Austria, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, and Romania. The press release says “for 10 years” which means that this is Logic’s first job in coaching after playing professionally this past season.
One thing that the press release does not make clear is how exactly Logic fits into the staff. Marquette hasn’t kicked their roster over to 2025-26 yet, so Deont’a McChester, Khadijah Rushdan, and Chaia Huff are all still listed on the roster page. In fact, just four days ago, the team’s official Instagram noted where the coaching staff would be out recruiting for the weekend, and all three assistants were accounted for there. Evidence suggests that Logic is a true addition to the staff, not a replacement for anyone.
