Tyler Kolek will miss Marquette’s final two regular-season games with oblique injury

Marquette guard Tyler Kolek will miss the team’s final two regular-season games against UConn and Xavier due to an oblique strain he suffered on Feb. 28 in a 91-69 win over Providence, according to beat writer Ben Steele.

This news comes after Kolek sat out the Golden Eagles’ 89-75 loss on Saturday to No. 12 Creighton.

Tyler Kolek will sit out Marquette’s final two regular-season games this week with oblique injury, according to a source.

“We’re going to be very aggressive in helping him move forward and get ready to go,” head coach Shaka Smart said after the loss to the Bluejays. “At the same time, he’ll play when he’s ready to play.”

The team announced that he will be re-evaluated before the Big East Tournament.

Kolek is averaging 15 points and 7.6 assists (No. 1 in the country) per game for a Marquette team that currently sits at No. 2 in the Big East and is a projected No. 2 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

On Monday, he was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard.

The Golden Eagles (22-7, 13-5) will hope to hold their second spot in the conference during their final two games, as they are just .5 games ahead of Creighton (22-8, 13-6).
