The wheels of the future just keep on turning…..
Once the college basketball season wraps up, that means it’s Recruiting Season. Not just getting out to spring club events or home visits for high school students that Marquette men’s basketball was already in contact with, but also making new scholarship offers. We’ve got a pair of new scholarship offers from head coach Shaka Smart and his staff to talk about here. One is for the Class of 2026, which is the recruiting class that the Golden Eagles are most active at working on right now….. and the other is for the Class of 2028.
We’ll get to it. First, the 2026 guy….
Lucas Morillo
Blessed to receive a Division 1 Offer from Marquette University! #AGTG pic.twitter.com/yeQ8TbYvix

Morillo’s own Twitter bio lists him as a 6’7” combo guard, so that seems pretty trustworthy. It’s probably more up to date than 247 Sports listing him as a 6’5”, 180 pound shooting guard at the very least. Nothing against 247, but Lucas Morillo is probably more in tune with exactly how tall he is these days.
In any case, Morillo attends The Newman School, which is a boarding school in Boston. That means it’s a NEPSAC school, so I presume that Morillo’s recruitment is being supervised by Cody Hatt one way or another. Morillo led Newman to the team’s first ever NEPSAC Class AAA championship this past year, averaging 16 points, 9.2 rebounds, and five assists per game.
He plays for City Rocks on the club circuit which means he has connections to New York basketball. Those probably come by way of ESPN listing New Rochelle as his home town as well as noting that he used to attend New Rochelle High School before ending up at Newman. Morillo has also played for the Dominican Republic’s junior teams in the past, including at the 2024 FIBA U16 Americas Championship and the 2024 FIBA U18 Americas Championship. In his three national team events, Morillo has averaged 15.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
Let’s swing back to that ESPN mention a second ago, because The World Wide Leader likes Morillo quite a bit. They have him at #65 in the country for the Class of 2026, even though he’s only #28 amongst small forwards. 247 and Rivals both don’t rate or rank him at all, while On3 slots him in at #165 in their Industry Ranking, which is a compilation of all the other rankings.
Can I interest you in 90 seconds of highlights from back in December?
What about five minutes from the FIBA U16 Americas tournament? Yes, that means it’s two years old, but it’s national team competition.
Xavier Skipworth
Blessed And Honored To Receive My First D1 Offer From Marquette University ! pic.twitter.com/3YMANDfaoC

Yep, Marquette is Xavier Skipworth’s first Division 1 offer. That makes a certain amount of sense, because as a Class of 2028 prospect, he’s only just finishing up his freshman year of high school right now. To that end: His Twitter bio lists him at 6’5” tall….. and he’s 15. I wonder how long he’s been obviously north of 6 feet.
The young man has already been impressing people in his short time at The Bullis School — hey, that’s where 2025-26 Marquette freshman Adrien Stevens goes to school — in the Washington, D.C., area, and with Team Takeover on the club scene. How do I know this for certain? Because ESPN has Skipworth at #14 in their Class of 2028 Top 25 right now. Seems good!
I’m not going to put a lot of effort into figuring things out about Skipworth, because he’s not going to think about signing a letter of intent (or whatever we’re going to be calling it in the future) for two more years. Heck, Shaka Smart can’t even pick up the phone and call Skipworth whenever he wants until June 2026.
Wanna watch two minutes of him in action from back in January of this year? Keep your eyes open for #13, that’s Adrien Stevens.
As always, we’ll wrap up with the scholarship chart:

The Morillo recruitment is interesting, as I was kind of thinking that Marquette was focusing on Alex Egbuonu and Vaughn Karvala for the Class of 2026 at this point. Issuing a scholarship offer this late in the game does kind of indicate that the Golden Eagles’ staff is either A) looking in new directions or B) keeping their options wide open.
It’s interesting to see Marquette as the first team in the door for Skipworth, given that ESPN has him so highly ranked. Then again, they were watching him all year long while watching Adrien Stevens tape, so the MU staff has to be pretty familiar with precisely how Skipworth handles himself on the court.
