Still, a pretty good showing for the former Golden Eagle’s first ever major tournament appearance.
Unfortunately, we have to report that former Marquette golfer OJ Farrell has missed the cut at the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. He finished his second round with an overall score of 4-over-par, and the cut for the top 70 and ties landed at +1 with 20 guys tied for 51st place. Farrell finishes tied for 99th place through two rounds.
AND YET!
I think it has to be seen as a pretty good two days for Farrell, who was the 2019 Big East Player of the Year for the Golden Eagles. He shot +3 for the first round, and then, after taking on three more bogeys in his first five holes of Round #2, he brought it home with three birdies against just one more bogey across the final 11 holes. Not only did that mean he played the back nine better than he did in the first round, it also meant that Farrell played the entire second round better than his first round, finishing up Friday’s action at +1 for the day.
Not too bad for a guy who had the British Open itself noting that he wasn’t in the top 1,400 players in the world when he entered qualifying, y’know?
AND NOW, A LIST OF NOTABLE GOLFERS WHO HAD A WORSE TWO ROUNDS THAN OJ FARRELL:
Patrick Reed (+5)
Louis Oostheuizen (+6)
Darren Clarke (+6)
Brooks Koepka (+7)
Collin Morikawa (+7)
Adam Scott (+9)
Padraig Harrington (+9)
