The Golden Eagles are on top of the team and individual leaderboard with a one stroke lead on both sides.
After 18 holes of action, your 2023 Big East champions are on the top of the 2024 Big East men’s golf championship leaderboard.
Led by a first round 68 from Josh Robinson, Marquette is in first place of the conference championship down in South Carolina at Riverton Pointe Country Club. Marquette is +3 as a team, which gives them a one stroke lead over Seton Hall and a four stroke lead over Butler. St. John’s is the only other team within single digits of par at +9, but Villanova and Creighton are at +10 as a team, and with team scoring, those two are still very much in play for the conference title after one day.
Robinson’s 68 was -4 for the course and it has him in first place on the individual leaderboard after one day. Seven men in total went under par on the first round, including MU’s Aiden Lafferty, who shot a 70. Peicheng Chen from St. John’s is one stroke behind Robinson, while Seton Hall’s Wenliang Xie is tied with Lafferty at two strokes back heading into the second round.
Marquette is set to tee off their second round at 9:25 Central time on Sunday. The Golden Eagles will be paired with Seton Hall and Butler for the day, which means that Robinson will be going around the course with Xie for the day. Is that going to help propel him to another great round? We’ll have to watch and see.
