Kam Jones Invited To 2025 NBA Draft Combine

Pretty solid sign on the Marquette guard being selected in the draft in late June.

And now, a brief recreation of thoughts I had on Monday:

“Oh, hey, Kam Jones is officially invited to the NBA Draft Combine, cool.”

“Hey, wait, does that say May 13-15 on it? Isn’t today the 12th? Feels like these invites should have been out long before now?”

“Wait, they have to go out long before now, because the NBA also runs the G League Elite Camp right before the Combine and then invites the top performers to the NBA Draft Combine.”

“That means that the G League Elite Camp is already over if the Draft Combine starts tomorrow.”

“Shoot, that means that David Joplin wasn’t invited to the Elite Camp, so our dreams of him shooting 75% at Wintrust Arena and slipping into draft conversations has gone by the wayside.”

“Wait, when did the NBA announce the Combine invites, anyway?”

[Googles] “They announced it on May 2nd? And Marquette Golden Eagles only got around to promoting Jones’ invite today? Well, that does explain why it completely slipped past my radar for a week and a half, at least.”

And scene.

Jones is one of 75 original invitees to the Draft Combine, which has since been bolstered with five more guys from the Elite Camp. It’s safe to say that Jones is a consensus NBA Draft candidate, as the original 75 list is put together by way of NBA teams telling the league office which prospects they are most interested in seeing at the Combine. The catch, of course, is that they invited 75 guys to participate, and there are only 59 picks in the 2025 draft, down from the expected 60 because the New York Knicks lost a pick to free agency shenanigan punishment. By default, there are 16 guys at the Combine who will not get picked in the draft. Maybe a couple will be guys who finish up the Combine and elect to withdraw and return to school….. but there’s not that many early entrants into the draft pool this year. On top of that, there’s nothing saying you have to actually draft someone who attends the Combine.

We’ll really start to get a feel for where Jones fits in to the draft next week when the mock drafts start getting published with analysts getting a chance to hear from teams after the Combine. Hopefully Marquette’s #2 all-time scorer has a positive week and can put his best foot forward…..
