It’s Moment Of Truth Time for Marquette’s #2 all-time scorer as the NBA conducts an HR meeting over the next two nights.
If I had to guess, I don’t expect to hear NBA Commissioner Adam Silver call Kam Jones’ name on Wednesday night.
First, some details.

As we’ve been monitoring mock drafts over the past few weeks, it seems to be clear that some combination of NBA decision makers and NBA draft gurus don’t have the Marquette guard as a first round pick. It seems like a pretty safe bet that we’ll hear Jones’ name get called on Thursday night, during the second round, but let’s run through some mock drafts to see exactly what they’re saying.
Remember: This year’s NBA Draft is a 59 pick draft. 30 in the first round, 29 in the second round because the New York Knicks got caught doing free agent shenanigans and got penalized a pick.
ESPN Mock Draft (6/24): #46, Orlando Magic
ESPN Big Board (6/21): #46
CBS Sports Prospect Rankings (6/24): #34
CBS Sports has seven different mock draft available, none of which go past the first round, and thus none of them have Kam Jones on the board.
NBADraft.net (6/25): #45, Chicago Bulls
NBADraft.net Big Board (6/18): #43
Yahoo Sports Mock Draft (6/24): #43, Utah Jazz
Yahoo Sports Big Board (6/24): #43
And a scouting report from Kevin O’Connor!
Jones offers crafty combo guard skills with advanced shot creation and a blossoming playmaking feel. But his so-so athleticism and streaky shooting paint him as just a cog rather than the rare star upperclassmen set to enter the league.
Tankathon Mock Draft (6/23): #30, LA Clippers
Tankathon Big Board (6/23): #32
Bleacher Report (6/23): #34, Charlotte Hornets
A brief blurb from Jonathan Wasserman:
Kam Jones measured just 6’3” barefoot and had to leave the first NBA combine scrimmage with an injury. It wasn’t an ideal appearance for the 23-year-old, but there is enough tape of his shotmaking, finishing and improved playmaking for teams to start thinking about Jones early in the second round.
The Athletic ($) (6/25): #35, Philadelphia 76ers
The Ringer Mock Draft (6/24): #30, LA Clippers
The Ringer Big Board (6/24): #35
Sports Illustrated (6/24): #49, Cleveland Cavaliers
