The WNBA season starts on Friday, and the only Marquette player to ever appear in the league will see her team on a national level broadcast in 23 of the Lynx’s 44 games.
We are starting to run short of Marquette-themed NBA basketball to watch this season, as only Tyler Kolek’s New York Knicks remain active in the NBA Playoffs right now. After the Knicks flubbed Game 5 when they could have closed out the Jayson Tatum-less Boston Celtics, you have to figure that the Knicks’ playoff run miiiiiiiight not quite have the legs you’d like to see.
BUT NEVER FEAR!
We’ve got more Marquette-themed basketball to watch starting on Friday night!
That’s when the WNBA season gets started, and Marquette’s very own Natisha Hiedeman will be in action as her Minnesota Lynx visit the Dallas Wings to start the 2025 season. That will be the first of 23 Lynx games on a national type of broadcast one way or another this season, which is just a bit over half of Minnesota’s 44 game regular season slate.
The Lynx went 30-10 last season, finishing with the second best regular season record in the WNBA, trailing only the 32-8 posted by the New York Liberty. Minnesota went on to sweep Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs and beat Connecticut 3-2 in a five game semifinal series before falling 3-2 to the New York Liberty in the Finals.
Minnesota was led by Napheesa Collier last season, who fell just barely short of averaging a double-double on team highs in points (20.4) and rebounds (9.7). Natisha Hiedeman appeared in all 40 Lynx games last season, averaging 15.2 minutes per game while coming off the bench in every single contest. Hiedeman averaging 4.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.4 rebounds per game, and you’d have to imagine that head coach Cheryl Reeve might have tried to find a few more minutes per game if the Green Bay native had shot the three-pointer more in line with her career average. In five seasons with Connecticut, Hiedeman connected on 39.2% of her long range attempts, not entirely unlike her firepower as a Golden Eagle. Last year with the Lynx? Just 28%. Not so hot, so it’s clear that the 2019 Big East Player of the Year will be looking to bounce back in that regard at the very least this season.
This blog post is to keep you advised of when you can watch Natisha Hiedeman and the Minnesota Lynx on national TV this season. Somehow, even though they have 23 games that are on some broadcast that’s not just local TV in Minnesota, the Lynx will not face either the Seattle Storm or the expansion Golden State Valkyries in any of those games. Weird, right?
Most of the television assignments below should be self explanatory and familiar to you. Ion might not be, but that is available in the Milwaukee area over the air with an antenna as well as on Spectrum cable plus both Dish Network and DirecTV. Even better, if you have a Roku powered smart TV, Ion is part of their free TV streaming package.
