It’s a full fledged NBA deal, not just a two-way contract, although the former Marquette guard will probably spend some time in the G League
On Tuesday, the Indiana Pacers announced that they had officially signed former Marquette Golden Eagles guard Kam Jones to a contract. Jones was a second round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, where he was officially selected by the San Antonio Spurs at #38 overall, but the Spurs and the Pacers had already agreed to trade the pick/the draft rights before the draft started.
The terms of the deal were not announced, but we can discern from the press release that Kam Jones received a full fledged NBA contract. The Pacers announced signing Quenton Jackson to a two-way contract in the same release, so if this was a two-way for the former Golden Eagle, they clearly would have said so.
In fact, the Indy Star is here to help out on the details. According to their league sources, Jones has a three year contract with a fourth year team option worth up to $8.7 million. I’m going to presume that this is essentially a minimum salary contract, perhaps with a bonus attached if the team picks up the fourth year option. Still, three guaranteed years (or even partially guaranteed years) at an average value of over $2.1 million is nothing to sneeze at, especially when the #30 pick in the draft can’t make more than $2.7 in year #1 by way of their guaranteed contract.
Kam Jones earned consensus All-American status in his fourth and final year with Marquette, averaging team highs of 19.2 points and 5.9 assists while adding 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game as well. He wrapped up his career with 2,044 points in a Marquette uniform, making him the second player in Marquette history to ever score at least 2,000 career points, following in only the footsteps of all-time leading scorer Markus Howard.
Your first opportunity to see Jones in Pacers blue and gold comes up on Thursday, July 10th, when Indiana plays Cleveland in the first game of 2025 NBA Vegas Summer League. That game is scheduled for 4pm Central time, and NBA TV will have the broadcast. We’ll have a full schedule for all of Marquette’s NBA Summer League participants up before games start on Thursday.
