Class of 2025 Ebuka Okorie talks Power 6 interests

April 26, 2023 by Zags Blog

By CHARLIE PARENT

Ebuka Okorie, a 5-foot-11 guard in the class of 2025, has been in contact with Power 6 schools Rutgers, Marquette, and Iowa, he told ZAGSBLOG.

The Cushing Academy (MA.) product currently holds offers from Bryant and Sanford.

While the interests are there, Okorie mentioned that the Power 6 programs are looking for him to fill out his frame and become more vocal.

“They’ve just been telling me what I need to work on,” he said in a phone interview. “They’re telling me I need to improve in leadership and being more of a floor general, just to continue to improve in that aspect of the game and get stronger.”

Ebuka Okorie ‘25 – just 15 years old. Scores and creates at the highest level, consistently beating players 3 and 4 years older than him. Averaged 20 ppg in the NEPSAC AA playoffs.

“Ebuka is a 3 level scoring guard with tremendous change of pace and vision,” Cushing head coach James Cormier said. “He is coming into his own as an athlete and next year will be the season where he jumps onto the national stage. He is 12-18 months younger than most of the players in his grade. Once he catches up physically, sky is the limit.”

Okorie recently took his first unofficial visit to UMass last week.

“It was good,” he said. “They were showing us around campus, the facilities were nice and they were showing their team lift, things like that.”

In terms of what Okorie is trying to display this AAU season, he highlighted his balance of playmaking and scoring.

“Just show that I’m improving as a point guard and leader of a team,” he said. “Showing that I can help run a team and also show that I can score the ball. Just a balance of passing, scoring, and leading.”
