The former Maryland Terrapin attacker walks straight off the field and onto the Golden Eagles sideline to replace Caitlin Wolf.
Marquette women’s lacrosse head coach Meredith Black announced a change to her coaching staff on Wednesday. Chrissy Thomas is joining the program as an assistant coach. Thomas replaces Caitlin Wolf amongst Black’s assistants.
Marquette never actually put out a press release announcing Wolf’s departure from the program or anything like that, but there was a social media tribute to her back on May 31st. Wolf wasn’t the first assistant on staff with Black, but she was the longest serving after being brought on for the 2016 season, so her departure from the program is kind of a whole big deal.
Chrissy Thomas wrapped up her collegiate playing career for Maryland this past spring, putting up 18 goals and 39 assists as the Terrapins went 15-6 to earn a #6 seed in the NCAA tournament and advance to the second round. She finished her career with 58 goals and 98 assists, which means that Thomas is #10 all time in Maryland history in assists and #45 in points. That’s pretty impressive on its own, and even more when you remember that Maryland has 13 NCAA tournament championships.
There’s a pretty tall task standing in front of Thomas as she takes over Wolf’s task of guiding the Marquette offense. The MU offensive record book has been rewritten over and over in Wolf’s 10 years as coordinator, with all three of the 200 point careers in program history coming since 2019. Here’s what Black had to say about her new assistant:
“We are very excited to welcome Chrissy to the Marquette women’s lacrosse family,” Black said. “Her successful playing experience at Maryland and her high lacrosse IQ will translate directly to coaching. I’m confident she’ll elevate our offensive unit and help our student-athletes grow both on and off the field.”
You saw it right there, “elevate our offensive unit.” There’s still room to grow as a program if Thomas’ 156 points are 45th best in Maryland history but would land at #8 all time in Marquette history. Sure, the Terrapins have history on their side, but you see my point.
Here’s Thomas on her new job, which is also her first post-college job:
“I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Marquette women’s lacrosse family,” Thomas said. “I look forward to learning from Meredith and Annie, connecting with the team, and helping the team reach its goals on and off the field.”
Marquette went 10-6 in 2025, marking the third time in program history that the Golden Eagles cracked double digits in victories and the second time in three seasons. MU still missed the Big East tournament with a record of 3-3, so that gives them something to shoot for in 2026.
