John Henson: Still in the league
Every Monday at 5:00 PM Central this all-purpose thread goes up, and the comments section is where it’s going down. This is your place to discuss all the NBA’s action happening during the week when the Bucks are off-duty.
There’s something about former Bucks kicking around the league that makes the heart grow fonder. It isn’t that I actually thought John Henson, who just signed a 10-day contract with New York, would come in and really shore up our rotation as a buyout guy, but I’m a sucker for a fun storyline if the stakes are low enough. See: Brandon Jennings’s second stint in Milwaukee.
Alas, we have to sit back and watch while our former disciples shuttle from basement dweller to basement dweller looking for a spot to become a hanger-on. Sometimes that search brings them within Milwaukee’s orbit (see: Brandon Knight about a week ago, supposedly), but more often than not they end up with the likes of the Knicks. It is ultimately sobering to see a guy who was a mainstay with your team for nearly seven years just sort of… stop having a job.
We’ll always have those 14 games under Budenholzer where Henson shot a totally-sustainable 35.5% from three on 2.2 3PA per game. If anything, that was even more proof that retired janitor’s posit that Bud can get the best out of less-talented players is probably correct.
