The Milwaukee Bucks continue to add young players on the fringes, as Jon Chepkevich of Draft Express reported yesterday that the Bucks gave out an Exhibit 10 contract to former Loyola-Chicago wing Philip Alston:

Philip Alston has agreed to an Exhibit-10 contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, I’m told.

Saw his role expand over the course of NBA Summer League, culminating with a strong performance (11 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, game-high +14) as a starter against the Wizards. https://t.co/aqFTzcLd3h pic.twitter.com/OzJSq1zocy

Alston went undrafted after spending his last two seasons with the Ramblers, where he averaged 13.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks with shooting splits of 46.0%/32.6%/66.7%. Alston joined the Bucks during the summer league, playing in all three games. He joined the starting lineup in the finale against the Washington Wizards, where he put up eleven points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Alston is an athletic wing, who can drive to the hoop (as evidenced by the clip above), is a decent rebounder, and has some defensive chops.

The Bucks’ standard roster is currently full with fourteen fully guaranteed contracts and Andre Jackson Jr.’s partially guaranteed contract (fully guaranteed on January 10, 2025), plus three two-way deals. Teams are permitted to carry a 21-man roster in the offseason before cutting their standard roster down to fifteen by opening night, and teams usually take advantage of their three additional slots with Exhibit 10s, which are fully non-guaranteed. These players can be designated as affiliate players if they are waived to keep their G League rights.

Alston is the first Exhibit 10 signing the Bucks have made this offseason, which will get him into training camp and allow him to appear in preseason games. He will most likely not make the team in training camp nor see the NBA court during this upcoming regular season. However, Alston could make a bonus of $77.5k if he spends 60 days with the Wisconsin Herd, which seems like where he’s headed this fall.
