Rapid Recap: Bucks 125, Heat 96

NBA: Miami Heat at Milwaukee Bucks

Now that’s overcoming adversity!

Despite landing at General Mitchell airport literally hours before tip-off, the Milwaukee Bucks absolutely dismantled the Miami Heat, 126-96. Damian Lillard led things for Milwaukee, finishing a rebound shy of a triple-double (29 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists). Kel’el Ware was the top scorer for Miami, pouring in 21 points.

NBA.com Box Score

As you could’ve guessed from the situation coming into this one, it was a pretty sluggish start for the Bucks. Miami instantly leapt out to a lopsided 15-3 lead, forcing Milwaukee into a hole very early on. That double-digit lead failed to last the entire quarter, though. Behind ten first quarter points from their recently named All-Star starter Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee lagged behind by just three points, 30-27 after one.

Gary Trent Jr. would go nuclear in the second quarter, rattling off 15 points on five threes in the first half. It helped Milwaukee earn double-digit separation headed into halftime. Damian Lillard then hit three consecutive free throws after being fouled on a 3PA…and then Miami turned it over, which then developed into a buzzer-beating three from Dame. At halftime, the scoreboard read 71-55 in favor of the Bucks.

It remained an absolute blowout through the third quarter. Despite the rocky travel schedule, the Bucks’ offense was still absolutely ferocious. They’d balloon things to a 20-point trouncing heading into the fourth quarter, 94-74.

It was pretty much all over at that point. There was simply nothing else Miami could throw the Bucks’ way. The dust would eventually settle with a 125-96 victory for Milwaukee. Pretty incredible given the circumstances they found themselves in earlier in the day.

Stat That Stood Out

Gary Trent Jr. was the main ignitor that really generated things for the Bucks in this one. His five threes in the first half was the air that lifted the Bucks to victory. That was the moment where you could really tell that Miami was floundering. At the conclusion of this one, he ended up draining seven threes on the evening. being a significant catalyst in Milwaukee’s landslide of a victory.
