Fresh off an uggo road trip, the Bucks take on a Western Conference contender.
The Milwaukee Bucks return home to face the Memphis Grizzlies. Their first matchup of the season lived up to its Halloween billing, with Memphis absolutely terrifying Milwaukee to the tune of an emphatic 122-99 beatdown. The Bucks will try to reverse course, but recent history suggests it won’t be easy: six straight losses to the Grizzlies and a 1-5 record against them at home since Bud took over. Woof!
In other news… Luka’s a Laker and AD’s a Mav?! Feel free to discuss that too in the comments below.
Where We’re At
The Bucks reeled off a 1-3 road trip against a mixed bag of opposition: the Clippers, Jazz, Trail Blazers, and Spurs, with the lone win coming in Salt Lake City (a land of hope and joy). The absence of Bobby Portis and (mostly) AJ Green did not help matters, not to mention being on the road. Ironically, the offense has been fine enough, but it’s the defense that’s gone AWOL. Although reinforcements may be on the way inside, that’s hardly been the only issue on that end of the floor, with questions swirling about myriad perimeter defenders as well.
Meanwhile, Memphis is sitting pretty. Since January 4th, they have only suffered losses to the Knicks (been there) and Rockets (twice)—not too shabby! Moreover, they repaid Houston on Friday with a nail-biting 120-119 win (three times in one month? really?). Maybe they’ll face an emotional let-down after winning in a nascent rivalry? Not much to say here otherwise: this is a very good team. But…
Injury Report
…they may be down some key cogs. Most notably, Ja Morant is doubtful (right shoulder soreness). Marcus Smart (right index finger partial extensor hood tear), Cam Spencer (left thumb surgery recovery), and Vince Williams Jr. (right ankle sprain) are out. However, Zach Edey is available (face mask for a nasal fracture).
For the Bucks, Bobby remains out for personal reasons. Besides that, it’s a whole host of probables: Giannis (right patella tendinopathy), Dame (left groin soreness), Brook (back soreness), Khris (bilateral ankle injury management), TP (right patella tendinopathy; must be contagious!), and Gary (left hip flexor soreness). Makes me sore just typing it out!
Player To Watch
I’m hoping for a bounce-back game from AJ Green after he was noticeably rusty in his return from injury on Friday night.
