Look: Kelvin Sampson Appears To Make Decision On NBA

May 19, 2023 by The Spun

Earlier this week, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson met with the Milwaukee Bucks to discuss their head-coaching job.

Sampson was an assistant coach for the Bucks from 2008-2011. In 2014, he left the NBA behind to coach Houston.

Fortunately for Houston fans, it sounds like Sampson is staying put for at least a bit longer.

On Thursday afternoon, Sampson expressed his excitement over Houston’s move to the Big 12.

“I’m really excited about coaching in the Big 12 going forward,” Sampson said. “I think we’ll represent our University well.”

The fact that Sampson is openly talking about the 2023-24 season is a pretty good sign that he’s staying at Houston.

Sampson has done wonders for Houston’s basketball program over the past nine seasons, winning 232 games and making a Final Four appearance.

If Sampson is truly out of the running for the Bucks’ job opening, Milwaukee’s front office will have to consider other options, such as Charles Lee, Kenny Atkinson, Adrian Griffin and Kevin Young.
