Lakers to pursue Brook Lopez

June 29, 2025 by Hoops Hype

Perhaps the most established center headed for the open market is the ring-winning Brook Lopez. Two summers ago, you’ll recall, both San Antonio and Houston pursued Lopez aggressively before the Bucks successfully convinced him to re-sign. This time around, however, numerous rival teams are bracing for the center-craving Los Angeles Lakers to make a run at luring Lopez away from the Bucks.

Personally I’m pretty low on Brook Lopez as a Lakers target. I thought there was pretty meaningful defensive decline last year, and while the shooting is nice, getting a lob threat for Luka should be the greater priority.
It just feels like a stopgap to me. – 8:35 PM

More on this storyline

Even if the Lakers plan to address their center void by pursuing Atlanta’s Clint Capela instead or perhaps a target not as frequently discussed, there is a growing belief Lopez will indeed be on the move next week after a highly successful seven-season stint alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. -via marcstein.substack.com / June 28, 2025
The Lakers have long been fans of Brook Lopez, sources say. That doesn’t guarantee they will pursue him again, but the Lakers are indeed expected to be a player in the center market this summer. Sources say that Houston, furthermore, would once again have interest in signing Lopez if the Rockets are unable to retain Steven Adams. -via marcstein.substack.com / June 11, 2025
That said, I’m not expecting the roster to look the way it does now. The team is likely to retain Kevin Porter Jr.2 and most everyone I’ve spoken to assume Brook Lopez is gone. -via hardwoodparoxysm.substack.com / June 10, 2025
