NBA fans around the world have been debating who’s the greatest point guard of all-time: Steph Curry or Magic Johnson? On Thursday, Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had a surprising answer to this question.
Abdul-Jabbar told Justin Walters that Oscar Robertson is the greatest point guard to ever play the game.
“I don’t think you’re going to want to hear this. Oscar Robertson, the Big O,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “I only had a chance to play with him at the end of his career, but he was awesome.
“If people had seen him play in the prime of his career with the 3-point shot. Oscar had 3-point range, but he never got to play when it was incorporated into the game. People don’t understand how significant he was in how to play the game. I know Steph Curry, LeBron [James], Kobe [Bryant], Magic – all those guys are superior. But I’d have to go with Oscar.”
Abdul-Jabbar and Robertson were teammates in Milwaukee for four seasons.
Who’s the GOAT when it comes to point guards?! Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doesn’t think it’s Magic or Curry. He told me it’s Oscar Robertson. #NBATwitter pic.twitter.com/3QL4N8lhMJ

Robertson had a prolific career, averaging 25.7 points, 9.5 assists and 7.5 rebounds per game. He won an NBA title with the Bucks in 1971 and earned All-Star honors 12 times.
At the very least, Robertson belongs in the conversation for greatest point guard ever.
