Jayson Tatum shines in Boston’s close win over Bucks

December 6, 2024 by Hoops Hype

Tim Bontemps: Final: Celtics 111, Bucks 105 Jayson Tatum finishes with 34-10-5 as the Celtics pull out a thrilling game here at home against the Bucks in what felt like a playoff game. Terrific games from both Giannis Antetokounmpo (30-11) and Damian Lillard (31-5-4) for the Bucks.

really good sequence for Queta. Good positioning on defense to force the Portis miss and then a great pick and roll with Tatum for the dunk – 8:25 PM

I didn’t have to remind Desmond Bane of Jayson Tatum’s record against the Grizzlies.
Tatum is 13-0 against Memphis. Boston has won 16 of 17 against the Grizzlies.
“(Expletive) got to end.”
Plus, I talked with Marcus Smart about going back to Boston.

More on this storyline

The Celtics (18-4) have become the class of the NBA with consistency and dominance. They’re the reigning NBA champions and appear to be on a similar path this season. Boston is rated in the top 10 on offense and defense. It has the second best record in the NBA. The roster is also healthier with the recent return of Kristaps Porzingas to go with Tatum, Jaylen Brown and much more. “This game is a good barometer,” Bane said. “It’ll give us a good opportunity to see where we’re at.” -via Memphis Commercial Appeal / December 6, 2024
Desmond Bane didn’t need any reminders. The stat is already engraved in the head of the Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard ahead of a matchup against the Boston Celtics. He can’t remember where he saw it, but the numbers are notable. Celtics superstar forward Jayson Tatum has never lost to the Grizzlies. In eight seasons, Tatum has a 13-0 record against Memphis. “(Expletive) got to end,” Bane told The Commercial Appeal. -via Memphis Commercial Appeal / December 6, 2024
It’s not just Tatum who has had success against the Grizzlies. Boston has won six straight and 16 of 17 games against Memphis dating back to 2016. The one Grizzlies win came in an overtime matchup in 2021. Bane, Brandon Clarke and Ja Morant played in that game. Jaren Jackson Jr. was injured and John Konchar did not play due to a coach’s decision. That was Bane’s rookie season. In other words, a long time. “I need it,” Bane said of beating the Celtics. -via Memphis Commercial Appeal / December 6, 2024
