Giannis Reacts To Seeing LeBron James Sitting Courtside

July 19, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

NBA stars LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks hug after a game.

If there was any doubt about the magnitude of Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday, it was erased by seeing LeBron James sitting courtside.

After winning the NBA championship in 2020, LeBron was just a spectator this year. He and some of his friends, including Rich Paul, got to watch the Milwaukee Bucks take a 3-2 series lead with a 123-119 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo turned in another stellar performance, scoring 32 points while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out six assists. The “Greek Freak” punctuated the Milwaukee win with an alley-oop dunk that will be replayed for decades to come.

This afternoon, Giannis spoke about what it meant to have LeBron, who has played in 10 NBA Finals, sitting in the floor seats watching him play on the biggest stage.

“First time he made the Finals, 2007. I wasn’t playing basketball then,” Giannis said, via Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.

In fact, Giannis wasn’t drafted until 2013, the same year LeBron won his second NBA championship. Now, the 26-year-old Athenian is one win away from his first title.

He’ll look to close the series out at home in Game 6 tomorrow night.
