MILWAUKEE – Giannis Antetokounmpo’s possible decision to leave the Milwaukee Bucks has made headlines since their first-round exit to the Indiana Pacers. It has also led to a cascade of off-court decisions, including the historic waive and stretch of Damian Lillard. The team then signed Myles Turner to a four-year, $108.8 million deal. Now, according to senior NBA insider Marc Stein, the Bucks want to re-sign Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

Giannis Speaks On His Future
Giannis caused a stir after his comments on a stream with popular content creator, Ishowspeed. When asked about his future in Milwaukee, Giannis responded, “Probably, probably. We’ll see. We’ll see, probably. I love Milwaukee.”
It was his first public comment since the Bucks lost to the Pacers in late April. Unsurprisingly, Giannis had grown dissatisfied with the team’s direction after its third straight first-round playoff exit. Apart from the major offseason moves, the Bucks have also kept Bobby Portis Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., and Gary Trent Jr. They also signed shooting guard Gary Harris.
Roster Spots Still Open

Milwaukee still has two roster spots to fill for the 2025-26 season. According to Shams Charania, the team plans to sign Cole Anthony once he finalizes his buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Bucks’ final roster spot seems set for Giannis’ beloved brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
“The Bucks… are expected to re-sign Antetokounmpo’s brother Thanasis if their superstar indeed remains in Brewtown,” wrote Marc Stein for The Stein Line.
Thanasis’ Role With The Bucks
Thanasis has not been a Buck since the 2023-24 season. He has spent all but two games of his career in Milwaukee. Through 196 games, he’s averaged 2.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists on 50.6% shooting. The signing of Thanasis will help the Bucks more off the court than on it. He will be a Buck provided Giannis remains with the team.
This move shows the lengths the team will go to keep the greatest player in franchise history. Like they have shown all season, the Bucks are willing to pull every lever to keep Giannis — even if it means using their last roster spot for a sentimental move.
