The Bucks are playing the hand they have but it’s ridiculous to imagine Giannis being okay with a “gap year” entering his age 31 season.
If anything, the uncertainty with the Celtics should be more reason to find another team out East with which he can seriously contend with. – 5:51 PM

Here’s my latest Substack (free) on recent travels, Giannis, the Lakers (not likely related, though I put LA in the “HM” category), recent scouting reports, etc. Subscribe for free, or better still, subscribe for paid content. Both appreciated!

Paul George: I think Giannis Antetokounmpo is that older era cut where he wants to stay in Milwaukee his whole career. I don’t see him wanting to leave. And you see that more so, you know, with international guys. They kind of stay where they were drafted for the most part—especially, I mean, they come from a different world. You come to America, you get treated like royalty—king—all of that. Like, this took care of my family. This is home. And I won here. So, it’s a legacy thing, I think, with Giannis in Milwaukee. Yeah, I don’t think he wants to leave there. -via YouTube / May 26, 2025
A significant aspect of the Bucks’ pitch, then, is selling Giannis Antetokounmpo on the idea of a so-called gap year that enables them to retool the team while allowing him to maintain his one-team affiliation after 12 seasons in Milwaukee. The very forgiving East landscape certainly enhances the notion that it wouldn’t take years (with an s) to return to contention. The Bucks are also hoping that the presence of Doc Rivers as coach can provide some sort of boost. -via marcstein.substack.com / May 26, 2025
