Giannis Antetokounmpo: A lot of people try to convince me to go play in New York

July 10, 2025 by Hoops Hype

There’s been speculation Giannis Antetokounmpo could be the next NBA superstar to request a trade, and following the Bucks parting ways with Lillard, it feels like now would be the time to do so if he wants to leave Milwaukee. But where would Antetokounmpo go that make sense for the next chapter of his career? It seems like the people around the two-time MVP have an idea where that team should be… “A lot of people have tried to convince me, try to convince me to go and play there [New York] and stuff,” Antetokounmpo told popular streamer iShowSpeed. The Knicks have long been rumored as a potential landing spot for the star forward, especially after it was reported he was “open-minded” about leaving the Bucks back in May.

More on this storyline

Appearing on Thursday’s episode of Get Up, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst explained at least five or six teams are “banking on” Antetokounmpo’s recent comments saying “we’ll see” about his future as being an opening for them to strike: “The thing about it is, is he didn’t give a definitive answer. And I’m certainly not going to analyze something he said seaside in Greece but what I will say is the ‘we’ll see,’ that is essentially what there’s about five or six NBA teams banking on, the ‘we’ll see.’ And I know it sounds trivial but for years Giannis was completely locked in. Him saying ‘we’ll see’ backs up what Shams has been saying this entire summer, which is that he might be more open-minded than he was in the past. And I would say the same thing, ‘Probably Milwaukee, but we’ll see.’ And now I can quote Giannis on that, thank you very much.” -via Bleacher Report / July 10, 2025
While streaming with IShowSpeed, Watkins was listing the cities with high tax rates, such as New York and Los Angeles. Giannis then says “a lot of people” have been trying to convince him to play there, prompting Speed to ask if he’s staying in Milwaukee. “Probably. Probably. We’ll see. We’ll see. Probably. I love Milwaukee,” Giannis said before changing the subject and pointing out a local church. -via Bro Bible / July 10, 2025
Barry Jackson: Now that the cat is out of the bag, Bradley Beal was the player I was referencing last night when people started pleading for details I wasn’t authorized to offer yet. He’s still “interesting” because he shot a very impressive 49.7 percent (38.6 on threes) while averaging 17 ppg. But Bucks, trying to appease Giannis, could very well be more desperate than other potential suitors like Miami. -via x.com / July 6, 2025
