Bucks not looking to move Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard

November 11, 2024 by Hoops Hype

“I was talking to people in the league about the Bucks and I started hearing from people who were saying to me, ‘You know the Bucks called us about trades,’” said Brian Windhorst on Monday’s episode of ESPN’s Hoop Collective. “‘And I go about who? “‘Not Giannis and not Dame,’” Windhorst relayed as the reply from the executive.

Lillard dry heaved 7-8 trifectas. What else do you have to know about a game in which Giannis detonated for 43 points, his 50th 40-plus career effort? – 6:09 PM
Steve Bulpett @SteveBHoop
While people focus on the 2-8 start, Milwaukee’s troubles trace back to Sept 27, 2023, when it sent Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard and weakened its defense.
But I believe the Bucks were truly eliminated from contention four days later when Portland traded Holiday to Boston. – 6:02 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
Giannis made twice as many field goals (18) as Milwaukee’s four other starters combined (9).
The problems start there. Besides Dame sometimes, it sort of feels like it’s Giannis kicking ass with a bunch of other guys just sort of there. – 5:59 PM

FINAL: Celtics 113, Bucks 107

Steve Bulpett @SteveBHoop
The virtue of hunting Dame Lillard is not just that you have a better chance of scoring on him, it’s also that other Bucks have to help on his man, which can free up someone else. Great example was Tatum going at him and finding a wide open Derrick White for a 3. – 5:54 PM

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Celtics lead, 87-84.

Been a rough day for Damian Lillard thus far. He’s 3-of-12 from the field and just hasn’t looked comfortable all game.

#Celtics played about 37 seconds of good defense and then Dame hits a rushed 3 off one leg to beat the shot clock. Been that kind of day so far for BOS. #Bucks – 4:25 PM

Eric Nehm @eric_nehm
The Giannis+Bench units have not performed well this season, but they held up well there.
The Bucks were down, 25-16, when Damian Lillard left the floor with 3:22 left. And the Bucks cut two points off the deficit in that time.
Knicks up, 32-25, heading to the second quarter. – 8:13 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
Knicks are up double digits. Obviously not much to complain about here. But they’ve screened Damian Lillard off of Jalen Brunson several times and my question is just… why? That’s the matchup you want. Let Jalen cook. – 8:03 PM

More on this storyline

Damian Lillard: “A lot of the games that we’ve struggled in, teams are just getting to loose balls more than us, they get to the glass more than us, and they’re playing at a little bit faster pace than we are. That’s giving them an advantage and putting us behind in these games, and we’ve got to be much better about that.” -via YouTube / November 9, 2024
“I’ve always envisioned myself being in this position and wanting the opportunity,” Powell said Wednesday night. “Learning from when I was in Toronto with Kyle and DeMar (DeRozan), learning from Dame (Lillard) and CJ (McCollum), learning from PG and Kawhi. Being around those top guys and just getting game and knowledge from them in the summer. Going up against them, battling, and just wanting that.” -via New York Times / November 8, 2024
Eric Nehm: FINAL: Bucks 123, Jazz 100 – Lillard 34pts/4reb/7ast – Antetokounmpo 31pts/16reb/2ast – Portis 19pts/6reb – Green 12pts/2ast The Bucks have snapped their six-game losing streak. They are now 2-6 and play the Knicks in New York tomorrow night. -via x.com / November 7, 2024
Eric Nehm: The Bucks have submitted their first injury report for Tuesday’s game against the Raptors. Out: Khris Middleton (Bilateral Ankle Surgery) Probable: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Right Patella Tendinopathy) Andre Jackson Jr. (Left Hip Pointer) Gary Trent Jr. (Lower Back Spasms) -via Twitter @eric_nehm / November 11, 2024

Milwaukee dropped to 2-8 on the year while Boston improved to 9-2. “I think we are trending to the right direction,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “Obviously it doesn’t show. But I think slowly, slowly we’re playing better. Guys are competing. They competed tonight. So, slowly, slowly we are figuring out who we are.” -via Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel / November 10, 2024
