A Micić/Bucks version of the Carmelo Anthony/Hawks jersey meme is officially fair game
Milwaukee’s trade with the Charlotte Hornets processed yesterday at the end of the league’s moratorium, meaning Pat Connaughton and Vasilije Micić officially swapped teams. Now, as expected, Micić has agreed to a contract buyout with the Bucks and will likely be returning to Europe for the coming season, per Michael Scotto. This move frees up money to make the Myles Turner signing possible.
Micić is owed $8.1m on the rest of his contract, but is reportedly willing to give some money back to the team. The actual amount Milwaukee will be paying to complete the buyout has not yet been announced. However, if they wish to waive-and-stretch the remainder of Micić’s deal after the buyout, it must be in the amount of $6.1m. This is because the team can only add $680k more annually in dead cap to their books after releasing Damian Lillard. The CBA doesn’t allow more than 15% of a team’s payroll to be committed to dead cap, and the Bucks are very close to that limit with Dame being owed $22.5m per year.
The 31-year-old Micić spent two years in the NBA after coming over from Europe in 2023. He played 101 games with the Thunder, Hornets, and Suns, and averaged 6.8 PPG and 3.9 APG while shooting 39.5% from the floor. According to RealGM, the Serbian point guard has received interest from Turkish club Anadolu Efes, where he played when he won EuroLeague MVP in 2021. Former Bucks Jordan Nwora and Elijah Bryant were on that team in 2024–25.
We wish Vasa the best of luck in his return to Europe. This story will be updated when financial details on the buyout are released.
