There were multiple teams who asked Bradley Beal to waive his no-trade clause moving forward as part of a trade.
“I know for sure that at least a couple teams, if not all of them, made the ask ‘Hey, would you eliminate the no-trade clause if we got you?'” said Zach Lowe on his podcast. “And that was a non-starter. He was keeping the no-trade clause.”
The Washington Wizards included a no-trade clause as part of their five-year, $251 million contract with Beal during the 2022 offseason.
The Phoenix Suns decided to trade for Beal despite now having him under contract with the no-trade.
The Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks were among the other teams bidding on Beal.
Because of the no-trade clause, Beal was able to direct himself to the Suns in a trade package the Wizards likely wouldn’t have accepted otherwise.
